Digging Deeper into God’s Word

Hey guys! This section of my blog is going to be specifically focused on digging deeper into God’s Word.  But First….

How often do we read our Bibles and either skim through it or read so quickly that we can’t even remember what we just read.  I know this happens sometimes.  Here are a few tips to avoid that issue…

1. Make sure you are in a quiet place with no interruptions.

Many times, we get distracted by things happening around us.  Our phones, our families, pets, social media, television, etc.  When we spend time reading God’s Word, we really need to be determined to focus on Him and be open to learning new things.  God loves it when we spend time with Him and give Him our undivided attention.

I think that is just amazing.  I mean really, think about it… The God of the universe… wants to spend time with YOU! You are so special to Him and He loves when His children seek Him and spend time with Him.

2. Pray

That God would reveal Himself to you.  That He would speak to you.  That you would be able to focus on what He wants to show you.

It’s so crazy that sometimes we will read verses that we have already read several times before, but God uses it in the moment and season of life you are in to speak to you.  And then suddenly that verse means so much more to you and you understand it in a completely different way!

3. Journal

Seriously, this is so important!  Write down where you are reading from.  You can really decide how you want to use your journal to record your new revelations during your quiet time.  I normally write down verses that speak to me and then my interpretation of them and what they mean to me in my life.  Sometimes I will connect those verses to other scriptures.

Also, include the date!  It is so cool to look back in your journal and see what God has shown you and brought you through!

4. Underline and Highlight

Have you heard that a Bible that looks super old and “worn out” is the best kind?  That’s because it’s been used!  I love to underline and highlight in my Bible.  Then when I go back and read, I can see what verses spoke to me before.  I love when a Bible is written in.  I’ve even seen people create “art” in the margins of their Bible, which I think is so cool!  Has anyone else seen this?

5. Be consistent!

Once you start digging deeper into God’s word, you will want it to be part of your daily routine.  Whether you decide to read every morning, night, or afternoon is up to you.  But the more you read your Bible, the closer you will be to God, the more joyful you will be!

6.  Focus on a Book at a time, or a small section

When you focus on a reasonable portion, it is easier to focus and easier to understand.  Pray that God would show you a section of the Bible that you should focus on.  I find that I get so much more out of my Bible time when I think about each verse individually and really focus on finding the meaning it could have in my life.

The most important thing is to invite God into your quiet time.  You are reading HIS Word.  He wants to be with you.  He wants to have an intimate relationship with you.  Press in to His love and pray that He would reveal Himself to you.

In this section of my blog, I am going to be sharing some of the revelations I have had through my Bible time.  I will be picking apart chapters of the Bible and sharing the things I have learned!  Feel free to comment and share!

Stay tuned for new posts in this section!!!

Blessings!
